By Komodo National Park Fee Editorial Desk
Sourced figures: fees in the table carry their source and check month. They are official or third-party figures, not our offers, and they change. This guide is not the park authority.
The Komodo National Park photography fee covers listed shoots: adverts, magazines and tour-package photography, commercial video and film, and prewedding work, each priced per package per location with separate foreign and Indonesian rates. Film and several other purposes also need a SIMAKSI permit. Personal holiday photos are not named on either list.
Which shoots have a Komodo National Park photography fee?
The tariff poster prices three groups of shoot, plus drones. The figures are in the price table on this page, and this table shows what falls into each group.
| Poster group | What it names | Unit | Priced by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Videography | Product or service adverts, video clips, film, drama, soap, FTV, web drama, reality shows and similar | Per package per location | Foreign or Indonesian |
| Photography | Tour packages, magazines, product or service adverts and similar | Per package per location | Foreign or Indonesian |
| Prewedding | Prewedding video and photo | Per package per location | Foreign or Indonesian |
| Drone | Drone operation | Per unit per day | Single line in the table |
The words "and similar" do some work here, since they leave room for projects the poster does not name. If yours is not listed, such as a brand reel for social media, do not assume it escapes the list or that it falls in a given group. Quote the poster's wording back to the park and ask which line it treats your shoot under.
How are commercial film and adverts priced?
By package and location, which is a different logic from an entrance ticket. Nothing in these lines runs per person or per day, so a large crew shooting for a week at one location and a small crew shooting for one morning could fall under the same line. A per-day photographer fee does not map onto the poster, and a seller quoting one is using a unit the poster does not show for these groups.
Two terms need clarifying before you budget, and the poster defines neither of them.
- Package. It may mean a whole production or a defined deliverable. Ask what the park treats as one package.
- Location. Moving from one site to another may count as a second location, and on a straight reading of the unit that means a second charge. If your shot list covers several islands, ask how they are counted.
The foreign and Indonesian split raises one more point. The poster's words are foreign tourists and Indonesian tourists, which fit a visitor better than a production. Put your actual crew and client in the question, including a foreign crew hired by an Indonesian client or the reverse. Video costs several times more than still photography on the same side of the split, so getting the group right matters more than the nationality detail for most budgets.
How is prewedding priced?
As one combined line for video and photo, per package per location, with a foreign rate and an Indonesian rate. The combined line is useful for couples who want both a film and stills, since the poster does not ask for two charges. It sits below the commercial lines in the price table, and well below commercial video on either side of the split.
Before you pay, ask how many people a package covers, whether a crew of hired photographers changes the line, and whether a couple with mixed nationalities pays the foreign or the Indonesian rate. Also consider the cost of everyone being in the park that day, because a prewedding line is a shoot charge and the entrance ticket is a separate per-person line. The Komodo National Park entrance fee page covers that ticket.
Do you also need a SIMAKSI permit?
Quite possibly. SIMAKSI is the entry permit for conservation areas, and a fee line does not replace it. According to the SIMAKSI page of the park, it is required for eight purposes:
- Research
- Education
- Commercial film
- Non-commercial film
- Documentaries
- Expeditions
- Journalism
- Drones
Compare this list with the poster and some gaps appear. Commercial film is on both, so plan for a charge and a permit. Still photography and prewedding are on the poster but are not named among the SIMAKSI purposes, so ask the park whether they need one. Research and journalism are on the permit list, yet no research or journalism line is among the poster items cited here. Documentaries are named on the permit list, and the poster's video group does not use that word. If you need a research or documentary permit, ask the park directly what is charged, and do not borrow a line from another group.
The same page says applications need a request letter, an activity proposal, and further documents that vary by purpose and nationality. It is the list on the park's page that you should follow, since requirements can vary with your case. The ministry report on SiOra says the system also covers these permits, so the SIMAKSI link on siora.id is one route to look at. Apply well ahead of your shoot, since no processing time is published. A permit outcome is the park's decision, and nobody outside the park can promise it.
What about personal holiday photos?
The poster's photography line names tour packages, magazines, adverts and similar, and those words point towards commercial use. A tourist with a phone is not named on it, and the SIMAKSI page lists no holiday photography among its purposes.
The closest official clue concerns drones, not cameras. The drone page of the park allows small drones for tourism documentation, personal or commercial, under conditions. So the park does draw that distinction for drones and still applies conditions to personal use. If you plan to fly, see our page on the Komodo National Park drone fee.
The cases that deserve a written question are the ones sitting nearest the poster's wording: you are being paid, a brand or hotel has commissioned the images, the pictures will sell a tour package, or a magazine will print them. A creator posting sponsored content falls in the same doubtful area. Send the park a one-paragraph description and keep the reply.
In what order should you sort out a shoot?
- Describe the shoot in one paragraph: purpose, client, crew nationality, gear and sites.
- Match it to a poster group and write down the unit.
- Check it against the eight SIMAKSI purposes.
- Ask the park authority to confirm both answers in writing.
- Gather the documents the SIMAKSI page requires for your purpose and nationality.
- Budget entrance tickets for every person on every day, then add any boat or crew costs.
Fixing the order this way stops you from booking a boat around a shot list that later turns out to need a permit you have not started. The Komodo National Park fee overview shows how shoot lines sit beside ordinary tickets.
What else do people ask about shooting in the park?
Do personal holiday photos in Komodo need a permit?
Neither list names them. The poster names commercial-type uses and the SIMAKSI page lists other purposes. If there is any paid or sponsored element, ask the park authority in writing.
How much is a prewedding shoot in Komodo?
The poster has one combined prewedding line for video and photo, per package per location, with foreign and Indonesian rates shown in the price table on this page. Boat, crew and entrance tickets are separate costs.
Which activities need a SIMAKSI in Komodo?
The park lists research, education, commercial and non-commercial film, documentaries, expeditions, journalism and drones. Applications need a request letter, an activity proposal and documents that vary by purpose and nationality.
How much is the Komodo National Park filming permit?
Two things are involved. The poster's videography line carries a charge per package per location, shown in the price table, and the park also lists film among the purposes that need a SIMAKSI.
How much is the Komodo National Park research permit?
Research is on the SIMAKSI list, but no research charge is among the poster lines cited on this page. Ask the park authority directly and do not assume a figure from another line.
Which published prices did we check?
Official tariffs and, where labelled, figures reported by named operators or the press, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Fees and rules change, and sources sometimes disagree, so check the source before you rely on a figure.

How do I reach the desk?
The desk does not issue park permits and cannot promise any permit result. If your shoot also needs travel arrangements, ask on WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or write to the desk. Those requests can lead to a paid booking, so we have a commercial interest in them. Any fee, the price and the contracting company will appear in a written offer before you agree, and only a written offer binds. Read the disclaimer for more.
Send the desk your dates, nationality, and activities. The desk replies in writing.
